Police Versus Blacks In America
From The Washington Post - "Ohio police released body-camera video Friday that shows officers interacting with a pregnant woman for about one minute before an officer fired a single shot through her windshield, killing her and her unborn baby, after authorities said the woman drove forward into one of the officers."
As a retired peace officer / academy instructor, there are clearly serious mistakes by, as usual, from both the law enforcement officers and a black suspect.
First, the suspect, Ta'Kiya Young's car, can be determined to be a deadly weapon if the vehicle is used to cause serious harm or death.
However, it appeared the intent of Ta’Kiya Young moving her car forward and bumping the officer’s knee while standing in front of her vehicle was used only for intimidation purposes.
In this case, the officer drawing his gun, and using deadly force could not possibly be authorized.
Another officer mistake was, the academy would not have trained the officer to put himself in a potential line of fire. For, the courts have maintained that a law enforcement officer cannot possibly be obligated to fall directly into the center of a dangerous situation. So, it is apparent the officer standing in from of Ta’Kiya Young's car did this on his own.
But, Ta'Kiya Young is certainly not free from fault. She repeatedly ignored officer commands to vacate her car. Her clear intent to hit an officer with her car does make her guilty of vehicular assault.
If Ms. Ta'Kiya Young had remained calm and compliant with police, she would have put herself and her baby in the safest position possible.
In America, many police and blacks are contaminated with "implicit biases". While it surfaces both automatically and unintentionally, it nevertheless adversely affects the judgments, decisions and behaviors of each individual.
While mental health specialists claim they can change unconscious biases, they do admit that this task of unmasking the prejudices of both police and blacks would be extremely difficult.
America may just have to live with the everyday microaggressions of law enforcement officers versus their black counterparts.

Muslims, America's Scapegoat?
I was a peace officer / academy instructor for over two decades of a penal institution that ran off acts of knavery. As hard as I fought to break through their barriers of unscrupulousness conduct, my few successes were eventually erased after my retirement.
At the top of the prison's list of discriminatory practices, was blaming Muslims for the institution's problems.
In the early years of my career, I clearly saw the cell blocks that I worked in had its problems with not only corrupt staff, but, as well, with rival gang members, and their illicit drugs and violence.
So, management had somehow convinced state investigators that the institution's problems stemmed from radical Muslim church groups that both encouraged and incited their Islam followers to destabilize the operations of the prison.
I didn't see it that way. But, my greenhorn opinions didn't matter.
As the years passed by, I gained tenure and influence as an academy instructor. I then took full advantage of my authority. I then assumed what was known to be the most arduous post in the prison. The institutional intake center.
I gave no one preferential treatment. I searched all staff, visitors and inmates by the standards that were written in my post orders.
The prison staff were outraged. They were used to having free passage into the prison. They did everything they could to have me removed from my post. It didn't work.
Seventy-one percent of the contraband I confiscated were from prison staff. Twenty-six percent of prohibited items were taken from non-Muslim church groups. The remaining three percent of contraband was taken from inmate trustees.
There was not one incident with the Muslim church groups. I reported my findings to the State Inspector General's Office (IG's).
The IG's conducted a full in depth investigation. Their findings were simple. The IG's had agreed that my report was not only authentic, but, as well, the Muslims were victims of collective discrimination.
Black Women In Law Enforcement
I was a peace officer for over twenty years. I retired in good standing in 2008.
The work related harassment and abuse of black female officers in the agency I was employed by was at outrageous levels during that time. And, surprisingly, that was with a representative of the Equal Rights Commission (ERC) assigned to our law enforcement agency. Hard to believe the lack of protections for black women could get even worse in this country. But, apparently it has done exactly that.
Looking back, two of my three best friends and partners during my years as an officer were black females. We were certainly harassed and threatened by the masses of both white and black chauvinistic male officers in the department. But, we stood tall against all those evil forces.
At one time, we were known among the officer ranks as, "the white and black trash". We were repeatedly accused of having, not only, sexual relations, but, as well, indulging in illicit drugs.
But, we filed case after case with the ERC against these officer misogynists. We won each and every case. Over the years the integrity in our testimony in these state hearings brought our character to unshakeable proportions.
While it is true we rarely ended the careers of those officers who denigrated these black female officers, we did, however, take away the mightiness that their prejudiced badges once held.
The Ignorance Of Las Vegans And Their Ever Surging Crime Rate
I am a resident of Las Vegas for over forty years, and a retired Peace Officer / Academy Instructor. The data shows our city is home to over three-hundred street gangs and twenty-thousand gang members.
Crime in Las Vegas will only continue to worsen in the coming years. Because, Sin City is at the bottom of the barrel in educating both its youth and adults.
But, what confirms a bleak future for Las Vegas is, as our children grow up into adulthood, Las Vegas remains ranked forty-ninth in the country in terms of academic growth. Additionally, a new national report ranks the Las Vegas Valley as the second worst in the nation in school quality.
But, all blame cannot be placed on Las Vegas' public school system. The question has to be asked and answered; why aren't the parents of children in Las Vegas more involved in their child's education. The answer is simple. Adult aged people in Las Vegas are also at the bottom of the nation's list in education. People, on the whole in Las Vegas, just do not care about getting formal degrees. For many well paying jobs in the service industry can be obtained with just minimal skills.
But, even among the relatively few adult natives in Las Vegas who do care about their education, their best source of upgrading their knowledge is the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). However, even UNLV is ranked two-hundred and eighty-fifth among universities across America.
It would figure that UNLV is best known for its basketball program. Therefore, no surprise that UNLV is known as one of America’s prime choices for the unintelligent.
The bottom line is, while the children of Las Vegas not only have few chances of becoming respectable people, they also have less chances of getting a decent education.
The White, Black, Latino and Asian gangs all have a paradise in which almost every vice known to mankind is openly practiced here in Las Vegas. Whether legal or not.
There Is No Simple Fix For Our Broken System Of Law Enforcement
I retired as a Peace Officer / Academy Instructor in good standing in the year 2008.
The law enforcement agency I was employed by, and the union I was represented by for over twenty years was never in much favor of hiring either women or minorities.
When I became certified as an academy instructor, I was then allowed access to some undisclosed and strictly confidential information.
While I had always seen the open prejudice against the women and minority officers in my department, now, I was getting the real points of management's actions against them. To say the least, it was very disturbing.
I clearly saw many newly hired women and minorities failing in their careers. I started digging deep into job qualifications and individual training records.
I came across a departmental code for the "glass ceiling" and "glass cliff". This meant, once women and minorities break the glass ceiling, managers are to ensure they face the glass cliff.
In short, women and people of color in our department were to be placed in leadership positions where the risk of their failure would be high.
It is true I could not muster enough solid evidence to bring charges against the department's training managers.
