Custody Management At The Southern Desert Correctional Center
Covered Under The
American disabilities Act?
Authored By: Bradley Chapline
I became aware of a fellow female officer, who confided in me, that she was becoming afflicted with bipolarism. Her symptoms, over time, were definitely affecting her job performance in a very negative way.
I clearly warned two shift lieutenants that her bipolar medication which could lead to sexual promiscuity, was giving her strong side effects that could put, both her, and our institution, in jeopardy.
Instead of these two male lieutenants taking the appropriate action to protect both the female officer and the institution, they both, allegedly, took it upon themselves to use this confidential information for purposes of their own personal benefit.
Several weeks later, and still working alone, and without any protections from the American Disabilities Act, this female officer was caught in the act of a compromising position with an inmate. She was promptly escorted off the prison yard, and her long time dedicated employment with the State of Nevada was terminated.
She deserved her rights. Her career should have been saved.
